Girish Daya has 18 years experience working in public administration, the last ten as a consultant working for the German Development cooperation or Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in South Africa and based at the South African National Treasury (NT) as an Advisor on public finance management (PFM). Prior to this Girish worked at the University of Fort Hare’s Public Finance Agency as a PFM short course tutor for the Eastern Cape Provincial Government. Prior to this, Girish supported the government’s entity for telecommunications, as a special advisor on FM.
Girish has specialist expertise in public administration and finance, in management and accounting, microeconomic policy and capacity building, and economic development, and governance, with advanced skills in project management, intergovernmental relations, change management and business restructuring. Girish helped the South African government’s role in developing a curriculum on Municipal Finance management wherein most leading academic institutions are hosting the accredited course. He has experience with accounting practices and standards and has been promoting stakeholder engagement, including the role of various other donor community organisations, within government with the aim of promoting coherency in government.
Girish’s role is to address implementation gaps through project initiation and has successfully ran a number of projects on behalf of GIZ and National Treasury and of which some projects were rolled out nationally. He has a strong awareness of the socio-economic consequences of public policy initiatives and has an active interest in international affairs and humanitarian assistance.
