Newzroom Afrika – 22 August 2022 – Although corruption at municipal level is a major issue affecting service delivery, Public Affairs Research Institute’s Tracy Ledger believes it is not the only problem.
“More than half of all South African households live in poverty. 25% of households don’t have enough monthly income to buy a basic basket of nutritious food.”
“The whole local government system depends on very poor household supporting the system.”
“For local government to work effectively, it’s gotta extract money from poor households that need to use that money to pay for food and transport and rent.”
