PARI is releasing two publications regarding President Ramaphosa’s commitments in response to the State Capture Commission / Zondo Commission report.

In October 2022, the President, in his response  made to the South African Parliament, committed to some 60 actions, most of them focused on institutional and regulatory reform. On the 3rd anniversary of the President’s commitments, PARI is releasing two publications assessing progress on addressing the institutional weaknesses in the regulation and operations of the state identified in the State Capture Commission report. The events playing out in the Madlanga Commission show the continued relevance of the Zondo Commission’s findings and recommendations, and the urgency of addressing them.

The first publication is an update to our short annual tracker publication, which we first released alongside the PARI-CASAC conferences on the Zondo Commission, which ran for three years.

The second publication is a detailed assessment of progress made in implementing the President’s 60 commitments commissioned by the National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council (NACAC). This independent assessment was commissioned as part of NACAC’s work to advise the President on the implementation of the State Capture Commission recommendations. It is contained in Appendix S of NACAC’s report ‘to the President, the Cabinet, and the Country’. We are re-publishing it here as a more accessible (navigable) document.
