NELGA is the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa. The NUST NELGA node currently has over 30 academic partner institutions in 12 southern African countries, making it the largest node on the continent. PARI joined the NUST NELGA Node for Southern Africa on 29 January 2021, as an academic, non-governmental organisation involved in land governance.
Known for being a trendsetter in higher education and applied research internationally, the Namibian University of Science and Technology (NUST) aims to become a leading university in Africa. The Department of Land and Property Sciences (DLPS) at NUST together with the Integrated Land Management Institute (ILMI) are at the forefront of research and outreach in the field of land governance and administration. NUST was selected as a NELGA Node for Southern Africa, because of its proven leadership and track record in academic education, training and research on land governance.
To date, under the NELGA scholarship programme, NUST and PLAAS (Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies, South Africa) have together granted 11 scholarships (6 masters and 5 PhD’s) on land governance.
