Asset Based Community Development (ABCD)
The Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach is a strategy for sustainable community-driven development which starts with what is present in a community, the capacities of its residents and workers, and the associational and institutional base of the community. The ABCD development process is asset based, which means it is relationship driven and focuses on the agenda building and problem-solving capacities in communities. In November 2025, an ABCD introductory workshop with municipal councillors was held in Tswelopele Local Municipality organised by Free State COGTA, Gauteng COGTA, Free State SALGA and COMPACT. A train-the-trainer workshop is being held in the municipality in 2026.
