Surviving on Four Buckets is a six-part documentary series produced by the Public Affairs Research Institute aimed at researching the everyday realities of chronic water insecurity in Johannesburg’s informal settlements. Focusing on Mountain City and Phumla Mqashi, the project highlights how a temporary truck and tank relief system has become institutionalised as a permanent feature of much urban water provision. Mahlatse Rampedi, a researcher at the Public Affairs Research Institute in the Just Transition programme, speaks to Katlego Msomi.
