On 25 July, Dr Federica Duca gave a lecture to University of Johannesburg’s third-year Architecture students (UJ FADA). The title of the lecture was The Politics of Leisure and Exclusion: Critical perspectives on golf. The presentation referenced recent work in the urban studies field by Hugo CerĂ³n-Anaya in his book titled Privilege at Play: Class, Race, Gender, and Golf in Mexico (2019).

Dr Duca has done extensive research into urban studies and the representation of space and social construction of urban forms and the means of its transformation. Last year, she coordinated a workshop and exhibition titles Gated Communities and Townhouse Complexes, in collaboration with the French Institute (IFAS), featuring academic and artistic perspectives on the rise of gated communities in South Africa.
